The magnificent antique engagement rings

Posted on 04:47 by Unknown
In the bid to be distinct and unique antique engagement rings have become immensely popular amongst the elite class. They have the taste and financial stability to afford these rings as their cost is obviously astronomical. These rings are known to be antique because they date back to nearly 100 years and are extremely rare to find. These aspects of engagement rings add to the mystique surrounding them and justify their price too. The craftsmanship displayed in these rings is remarkable and inimitable. Once the ring is there on your fiancées finger it is sure to be a show stopper.

Make your engagement the talk of the town with an antique engagement ring. These rings are available in various metals like white gold, yellow gold and platinum. The rings are dated back to the Victorian and Edwardian era and symbolize class. During the Edwardian era the rings were made especially from platinum and were embellished with sapphires and diamonds. Rings of this era are renowned for their fine detailing and striking scroll work with sharp silhouette. Victorian rings were more delicate and softer in appearance comparatively. They were mostly set in yellow gold or tinted rose-pink colored gold. Mine-cut was an exclusive cut popular during rings of this era. The rings were bejeweled with stunning diamonds in rows.

When buying any diamond jewelry you need to assess it with regard to the 4C’s that is:

1. Clarity: The clearer the diamond the better is its quality. If the inclusions in the diamond are higher than the quality of diamond is low. Diamonds are graded as per clarity with FL being awarded for a flawless diamond and I-3 given for a diamond that has many inclusions visible to the naked eye too. It is advisable to avoid I2 and I3 diamonds as their quality is lower than the acceptable standards.

2. Color: A pure diamond emits a pure white light with no color. Any colors emitted are hints of impurities which a diamond may have in smaller quantities. If there is too much color then the diamond is of low quality and should preferably not be bought. An absolutely clear diamond is of the highest quality and has the grade D allotted to it. Diamonds with a strong yellowish tint have the grade Z. It is preferable to buy diamonds from grade D to Grade L.

3. Carats: Diamonds are also measured in carats to evaluate its worth. Carats are actually the size of the diamond that means 1 gram has 5 carats. 1K is divided into 100 points. So a 50 point diamond would measure 0.5 a carat. Diamonds are priced according to their karats too. Hence a diamond that is 10 carats would be priced more than 2 diamonds of 5 carats each as larger diamonds are exclusive and rare to find.

4. Cut: There are 8 diamond cuts possible out of which the brilliant round-cut is the most common and popular one. Don’t get carried away by the fancy shapes you see and end up paying more for them. Actually these fancy shapes are cheaper than the round-cut. Princess cut is very popular now-a-days in engagement rings and is not as expensive too as the cutter wastes less of the diamond while shaping it.
